Why We’re Saying No to Black Friday

On November 29th, it will be Black Friday, a day that in recent years has become synonymous with rampant consumerism. This year, at Centro Moda Carbone, we have chosen not to offer discounts and promotions; instead, we have decided to take part in an awareness campaign on the impact of our choices, promoted by zeroCO2.
Black Friday is one of the most evident manifestations of an unsustainable consumption model, which is having devastating consequences on our planet. Forests are burning, oceans are filling with plastic, and excess CO2 is changing the climate in alarming ways. As a company, we are aware of the responsibilities that come with doing business. Today, companies have a crucial role in leading the change toward a more sustainable future. We cannot ignore the environmental and social impact of our actions. By opting out of Black Friday and signing the Zero Friday Manifesto, we want to demonstrate that there is a different way to do business—one that does not sacrifice our planet for short-term profits. We believe that companies have the power to positively influence consumers and other businesses. We aim to encourage reflection on what truly matters, on products that respect the environment, workers, and are designed to be recycled, leaving you with three questions about Black Friday:

  • Is this the business model you want to support?
  • How can we contribute to a more sustainable world?
  • What example do we want to set for our customers and community?

We would like to live on a planet where reforestation is not necessary, where oceans are not filled with plastic, and where the air in cities is not saturated with fine particles.

It is possible—it depends on our choices.
